Once upon a time there was a king with four wives. Every king in the past has had more than two or four wives but this king had four wives.
Among all of his four wives, he loved his fourth wife the most. He provided her with everything. He truly treated her like his Queen and bestowed her with riches and delicacies.
The third wife was a piece of beauty and he would show her off to the neighbors or people of his kingdom but he feared that she would leave him one day but he loved her as much as his fourth wife.
As much as he loved his third wife, he also loved his second wife. She was the king’s confidence. She would help him in trouble times and give him solutions to his dilemma. She was more like his confident pillar and therefore she was treated with love and care too.
Now it’s likely that when we come to the first wife, we would assume he would love her the most because he loves the other three but that’s not the case. He doesn’t love this first wife though she was a very loyal partner to him and loved him dearly. She made great contributions to his wealth and kingdom but he barely noticed it.
One day the King fell ill and he didn’t have enough time so he asked all his three wives except the first wife to follow him and company him because the King doesn’t want to die alone. He expects all the three wives that he loves to company him when he dies but none of them do except the first one who loves him the most. Its then that he realizes that he should have treated her equally and lovingly as his other wives.
First Wife: “I’ll go with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the King said, “I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!”
The purpose of this story is to realize that all of us have four wives in our lives:
Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others.
