On April 1st my English class and I watched “Good Night, and Good Luck,” a movie directed by George Clooney. Because it is shot in Black and White color I found the beginning of the movie boring. As each minute passed by, new characters kept popping up and the story became apparent.
The movie is made in a historical context. It takes you through certain events and through certain prominent people in history such as Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. A.O Scott writes a review on “Good Night, and Good Luck.” He describes the movie with optimism praising George Clooney’s work. He uses words like “cinéma-vérité style” to further describe the movie. Though the review is very well organized and well worded, it still lacks in certain areas. Scott forgets to emphasize on McCarthyism but writes more about how George Clooney, David Strathairn and other actors performed in the movie.
I feel like more should have be written about McCarthyism because if someone who has not seen the movie yet would want to know about the basic topic or theme of the movie. And if they do not know about the topic, a little bit history would help them decide if they want to watch it or not. There are movies that are rated from 1 to 10. Some are rated 10 while others are rated 5. Scott in his essay portrays a great picture of the movie but unless we do not see it for ourselves, we can not decide. But in deciding to see the movie, we need reliable suggestions on the movie.
All characters do a good job in playing their roles. They successful nail their roles and expressions. Black and White picture does not make a difference in the making of the movie though it does give the movie a more dramatic feel. Even if it was colorful, red, blue or yellow, it could have been the same but White and Black color added a documentary touch to it.
