Scott’s review on “Good night and Good Luck” is very different than Orr’s review on “There will be blood.” Both approach their reviews according to the story of the movie. Both describe the main characters of the movie and how they play their roles properly.
Christopher Orr in his first paragraph beautifully portrays the scene of “A solitary miner.” After which he tells his readers the main thesis of the movie that is, “One man lives and one man dies. One hoists himself from the Earth’s embrace; the other is sucked into it. One winner, one loser.”
By saying this he is illustrating different pictures of the movie. Orr is the third paragraph points at the winner of the movie, an oil entrepreneur Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis), the success and dooms of his life.
The third paragraph summarizes the movie nicely. In sixth paragraph Orr gives his view point on how brilliant the movie is by describing it with words such as, the surface, the vital, subterranean fluids, carnal intensity.
He also analyzes the title of the movie which is a good thing to do because the movie shows what is on the surface not what is underneath it. He analyzes the concept of “Blood” in different ways. If noticed carefully one will notice that Orr gives his views and opinions perfectly. He only says “I” as for his opinion at the end of the review which draws more attention towards the whole review.
Among both reviews by Scott and Orr, I feel like Orr’s review is much better and more understandable because it goes step by step therefore for my upcoming review, I am planning to use Orr’s technique.
